That’s a confirmation of Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation of South Korea Yoo Il-ho in the bilateral talk with Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang in the morning of September 9.

At the meeting, Minister Dinh La Thang highly appreciates the initiative proposed by the Korean side to hold ASEM Forum on Asia - Europe Transport and Logistics Network as well as the cooperation on transportation between Vietnam and Korea during the past years.
In his introduction to Mr. Yoo Il-ho of the situation and orientation for development of Vietnam’s transportation, the Minister expresses Vietnam’s huge needs for the development of transportation infrastructure from now to 2020. As in the field of road, approximately 2,500 km of highway is expected to be completed and put into use by 2020 (now 600 km has been completed and employed).

In terms of railway, Vietnam is doing research on feasible methods for the construction of high-speed railway so that appropriate investment and construction plans shall be made.

In terms of maritime sector, Vietnam makes a priority for synchronous investment in order to ensure the uninterrupted connection between seaports, national transportation network and regional logistics entrepoot.

South Korea is the second largest bilateral donor next to Japan for Vietnam’s transportation. The bilateral talk with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation of Korea is among many activities of “Eurasian Symposium (ASEM) Logistics – held in South Korea from September 9 – 12

Especially in the field of aviation, Vietnam National Assembly has recently approved a project to build a new Long Thanh international airport with a capacity of 100 million passengers per year in Southern region.

In order to obtain these objectives, the mobilization of capitals, including foreign capital, plays a very important role. "I sincerely expect you might propose South Korean Government to consider the continuity of offering preferred capital to support Vietnam to develop transportation infrastructure and encourage South Korean enterprises to invest in transportation infrastructure projects in Vietnam, particularly under the form of PPP ", posed by the Minister.

It is also recommended by the Minister that the two parties continue supporting and creating favorable conditions for procedures, takeoff and landing time (slot), reducing costs, encouraging airlines to increasingly exploit the market, thereby facilitating the travel of Vietnamese and Korean people, making contribution to promoting economic, trade cooperation and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Besides, Minister Dinh La Thang suggests South Korea continues to support Vietnam by sharing experiences in transportation development as well as training and improving the competence of cadres in transportation sector in the areas of road, railway, aviation, administration and developing seaports, intelligent transport, etc.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation of South Korea Yoo Il-ho expresses thanks toward Vietnam for its highly appreciation for bilateral cooperation, as well as for a number of initiatives of Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang. He says that many Korean companies are eligible and wish to join the project of constructing transport infrastructure in Vietnam. South Korea possesses extensive experience in investment, construction, operation regarding railway.

"Up to now, South Korea’s high-speed railways have been constructed for 11 years, but there has been no fatal accident. Its railways also rank first in the world in terms of punctuality. We develop high railway in each stage, to date, it reaches 230 – 250 km/h, which represents a good model, appropriate with the strategy to develop railway in each stage of Vietnam”, said Mr. Yoo Il-ho. 

Mr. Yoo Il-ho hopes that South Korea shall be a partner of Vietnam in the implementation of projects developing high-speed railways. In respect of jointly coordinating takeoff – landing time, Minister Yoo II-ho assigns aviation authorities to thoroughly discuss prior to the implementation. The Korean side is willing to share experience in training supporting and investing in public-private partnership (PPP) with Vietnam.

The head of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation of South Korea proposes that the two parties signs a comprehensive strategic cooperation in the field of transport, at the same time extends an invitation to Minister Dinh La Thang to attend the 25th World Road Congress hosted by South Korea in the coming November.

At the meeting, Minister Dinh La Thang warmly welcomes and highly appreciates the cooperation, investment and the participation in the role of contractor for major transportation projects of Vietnam. He says that there are many Korean contractors performing well on schedule but also contractors carrying out slowly which are in need of being adjusted. The Minister entrusts Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam with promoting work with South Korean aviation authorities regarding procedures, takeoff and landing time, simultaneously affirms its willingness to work with South Korea’s agencies to support, cooperate, and implement PPP projects as well as intelligent transport systems. "This is an area which is much concerned by Vietnam. Recently, Ho Chi Minh city – Trung Luong highway IST System Project as a result of the cooperation between Vietnam - South Korea has just been completed and put into technical operation on 20/3 / 2015", the Minister said.
